Technical Consultant, Invitrogen Corporation

Two dimensional protein gel separation is an established technique that is still considered to be the best option for protein profiling in regards to resolution. The analysis of a complex mixture of proteins using traditional 2D gel electrophoresis is tedious, time consuming, and can be expensive. Recent advancements in sample fractionation and 2 Dimensional Electrophoresis enable researchers to overcome problems in identifying low abundance proteins from complex biological samples.

Invitrogen's Zoom® Benchtop™ Proteomic System offers an integrated solution in the mini-gel format for protein profiling and enables 2D gel separation to be simple and easy. This innovative system is of great value to both the novice as well as experienced proteomic researcher. It complements the concept of large format 2D gel profiling with the fractionation of samples, first and second dimension gel electrophoresis, followed by staining with mass spectrometry compatible stains. Initial analysis with the Zoom® Benchtop™ Proteomic System followed by final analysis on large format gels offers the user considerable amount of cost and timesavings.

Most importantly, the Zoom® Benchtop™ Proteomic System by the nature of its mini-cell design and affordability--presents the opportunity to bring the powerful tools of protein profiling to every researcher's benchtop.
